Annual Christmas Dinner for Salvation Army Clients
Every year, a few days before Christmas, the Koepelkerk in Amsterdam hosts a special event for clients of the Salvation Army. Guests dress in their best clothes and gather for a delightful three-course meal. This event has become a well-loved tradition, providing a festive atmosphere and a sense of community. The Christmas dinner is organized in two sessions, one in the afternoon and another in the evening, each welcoming 350 attendees. This arrangement ensures that many people can enjoy the celebration.
COMMUNITY EFFORTS TO SPREAD HOLIDAY JOY
The event is organized by the Salvation Army with significant support from The Bulldog. The Bulldog sends 4 to 5 volunteers per session to distribute bags filled with holiday treats. Each bag includes a Christmas loaf, butter, hot chocolate, and cookies, all sponsored by The Bulldog. The children of the clients also receive small gifts, adding to the festive spirit. In addition to these goodies, the Salvation Army is given the flexibility to purchase winter essentials like socks, underwear, and scarves for those in need. This practical assistance is highly valued by the attendees.
SANTA’S VISIT AND GENEROUS GIVING
One of the highlights of the event is the appearance of a professional Santa Claus, hired annually by The Bulldog. Santa doesn’t just wave and pose for photos; he engages with the guests, listens to their stories, and spreads festive cheer. His presence brings joy and excitement. Furthermore, Henk de Vries donates 100 envelopes containing money to those who need it most. This act of kindness provides much-needed financial relief during a time of year that can be particularly challenging.
A MEMORABLE EVENING FOR THE COMMUNITY
The annual Christmas dinner at the Koepelkerk is a heartwarming event, marked by generosity and community spirit. The collaboration between the Salvation Army and The Bulldog, along with the contributions, make this celebration a memorable and appreciated tradition.
