THE REBEL WITH A HEART
The Bulldog is a name that’s synonymous with pushing back the boundaries of what’s accepted. But there’s more to this dog than meets the eye. Ever since Henk de Vries founded The Bulldog in 1975, we’ve had an eye out for those that need it most: people who struggle with low income, addiction, homelessness or who simply need some extra attention. Close to home or far away, The Bulldog Foundation always seeks to help them by giving aid and brightening their day.
A SON HONOURING HIS MOTHER’S LEGACY
The Bulldog Foundation was officially founded in 2006, but we were active long before that. It stemmed from Henk’s personal history. As a young boy he spent most days on the streets of Amsterdam, which were full of crime and violence. Major Bosshardt of the Salvation Army took him under her wing and became like a second mother to Henk. As soon as the first money from his new coffeeshop started coming in, Henk was determined to put it to good use by helping those in need, out of love and respect for his ‘mother’.
HOW WE HELP
Our work started out small. Although he was eager to help, Henk didn’t know he should set about doing that. Major Bosshardt again helped him on his way. She told him how people would come to get their clothes washed, but that many came out worn and torn. They were in dire need of new socks, scarves and warm hats, so Henk brought a wardrobe which he filled with new clothes. From then on, the work never stopped and many new projects were started. Many of our projects are in collaboration with the Salvation Army, with whom we’ve always had a special relationship.
Accountability
The Bulldog Foundation was founded in 2006 as an offshoot of The Bulldog (founded in 1975). The foundation’s purpose is to financially support humanitarian, charitable, cultural and other public benefit projects.

Our aim for the coming years is to continue cheering up as many people as possible and doing our part for those who need it most. We also would like to help the community more than once every two months. We’re hoping to cross at least one international border in 2025 at the earliest.
The team at The Bulldog Foundation looks to help as many of the less fortunate in society as possible and cheer them up through social activities. In addition, we as a foundation wish to carry on our collaboration with the Salvation Army for as long as possible. In doing so, we hope to honour the bond between the former Major of the Salvation Army and Henk de Vries.
Our vision for The Bulldog Foundation is to expand its horizons and to operate abroad as well with the help of our employees in their respective countries. We’d like to see The Bulldog extend its social identity beyond The Netherlands.
